The World is Not Enough

Singapore Slung

SINGAPORE | Monday, 24 December 2007 | Views [325]

Our driver for the bus trip from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore spoke very little English, so we were a bit uncertain of where exactly we were going to be dropped off or where to meet the bus once finished with customs, but we had decided that even if we got to the other side and there was no bus there at least we were in the right country.

We did manage to persuade him to take us into the city of Singapore, and a short taxi ride took us to our hotel. After dropping off our luggage we (Lydia) decided we needed a plan of attack to deal with a city like this in around 2 days, and so we booked on a trip to a night safari for that evening. It was very interesting as it was attached to the Singapore zoo, and our tour guide Mr Steven proved to be highly entertaining.

The next day we took a trip on a city tour bus, and explored the botanical gardens. Unfortunately the rainforest and orchid sections were closed, but we did discover the ginger gardens and the evolutionary trail, both of which were very enlightening, if a little damp (think monsoon again…).

Our final day was spent on the same bus for the heritage tour, which was also enjoyable, followed by a leisurely lunch before returning to the hotel to collect our bags and making our way to the airport. All in all a pleasant whistle-stop tour of a very full and busy city.
