Day 24 - Tomorrow Was Ok

NEPAL | Friday, 7 March 2008 | Views [334]

As you could expect last night got pretty wild. Like most other hippies, the Nepalis were keen on crowding around fires, staring into the flames. So in to time there were bonfires on the streets of Thamel with loads of Nepali youth drinking and smoking. There was even a DJ concert in one street, could feel the bass in my room! Out the front of Om Tara Guest House the hotel guys were all huddled around a fire too, smoking joints and drinking Everest. I made their night by taking a picture for them - their previous attempts involved hanging it off a tree branch on timer.

This morning things were a bit slower than usual. Guru Ama (Nepali Teacher - a nickname she gave herself) confused the hell out of me when she asked "how was your tomorrow". I wasn't sure if she was asking about yesterday or my plans for tomorrow, so I told her both. Later I gave her the picture of William in traditional Thai dress and she asked if it was my mother! No confusions about the meaning of the word either!

I had a map of the world, which was pretty interesting to some of the staff. Amrit pointed at Germany and said Ravi is there - what the? I didn't know Ravi was even planning to leave. Explained why everyone was more relaxed and were having the buffet when he left! They make the most of the boss being away.

I must admit I am getting pretty sick of Thamel and Kathmandu in general. I haven't seen the mountains yet as the pollution blankets the city. The streets of Kathmandu aren't quite that picturesque and there are only so many times you can politely ignore offers of trekking or pot, and I especially tired of those damn women with their kids! Buy your own damn milk. To make things worse I have already done the major sight-seeing around Kathmandu. I want to go trekking already!
