Hi everyone,

We are finally in Mumbai on the last few days of our Indian holiday. I think we are both glad to see the passing away of our Indian leg of the trip. It is a marvellous place. The trekking was fantastic, the people we have met along the way have been great. Very friendly. The Taj Mahal was worth crossing the world to see.

However. The poverty, inhumanity, filth, shit, heat, constant begging for money, constant asking for money for the slightest thing done, even getting a toilet roll or extra pillow in your hotel. the animal cruelty, and the religious fanaticism combined with a total fixation on the earning of money from "believers" tends to take the shine off the romantic view of India, as a place to find enlightenment.

The food has been great, though not consistently so. Very cheap. I cant update my photos as yet as they have disabled the usb on every machine. Will wait till I get to paris. All our love and best wishes all. Paris here we come. Flying out at 0100hrs tomorrow night.

And happy birthday to Andrew 22yrs yesterday

Love Martin and Janet

G'day Martin and Janet,
Glad to see that you've finally put something up on the site! Glad to see that you're still having a good time and Sandra says that you've summed up India to a tee! Enjoy your European leg of the trip and keep intouch. Happy travelling to you both.

India sounds about right for 20 years ago,
but things must have improved for the masses.
Does the great divide between the haves and the have nots not declined?
Even Australia has recognised this great disparity.
Unfortunately there are even more worst cases of social injustice in Tibet,Burma,China and Africa.
Paris will be better.
More expensive, ruder and more like Perth, except flatter.

Sounds like Paris will be paradise after India. Looking forward to your tales of India over a glass of wine or 3. Paris is the best - just be a polite, well mannered Australian(lots of Bonjour Madam/Monsieur),and any french snottiness evaporates. Try to visit Musee D'Orsay - much more compact and less overwhelming than Louvre.Best bits are on top floor (Degas, Lautrec, Monet, Renoir, in abundance) There's superb furniture on ground floor. Enjoy. Lots of Love, Viv

Hi Martin and Janet, yes, India is all those things and much more. Its quite hard to see past those things that are so much "in your face" each day, but you have to love it and hate it. Have fun in gay Paris. love Kerrie
