My Scholarship entry - Havana urban life
Cuba | Wednesday, July 3, 2013 | 5 photos
I started taking pictures in high school and I never actually stopped. I had an old Russian camera and I would develop the negatives in the bathroom.
After having spent most part of my life in Eastern Europe, I moved to Montreal, Canada in 2008 and soon enough photojournalism took the most important part of my life.
I would drive for several hundred kilometres in the middle of the night to catch the Aurora Borealis (no luck so far), as well as I would spend several days at -30 shooting dog sledging competitions in Northern Quebec.
Nothing compares to the frustration of getting home after a photographic escapade without an excellent shot. But then again, nothing compares to the excitement of actually getting one.
I never leave the house without my camera. Photos are my way of showing an alternative reality to those who can't access it otherwise.
Being able to work with Jason Edwards for 10 days would be a terrific first-hand learning experience that no book would ever come close to. Being able to work within the National Geographic workflow would be a precious experience even for well-established photographers and I am sure I would put it at good use in my future.
