My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Mexico | Sunday, June 9, 2013 | 5 photos
A fascination with the environment and photography has led me to become a dive instructor, allowing me to travel and pursue my dreams of professional photography.
I enjoy the challenge of taking unique photos. Whilst working on a marine conservation project in Mexico I decided to document my experiences. I invested in a dive housing and started experimenting with the unique challenges of underwater photography. However, what is the use of a photo if it does not make a difference? As I strive to improve my photography I have begun to use my photos to educate the next generation on the importance of conservation. The right photo can make such an impact helping to raise awareness of the fragility of the natural environment.
My work was critiqued by Alfredo Barroso who taught me a lot and encouraged me to pursue my dreams. Entering this competitive world I feel disadvantaged compared to those who have had formal tuition. I taught myself through experimentation and I have a lot to learn. This scholarship is the perfect opportunity to expand my knowledge and skills and potentially experiment with underwater photography in icy environments.
