My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Australia | Saturday, January 5, 2013 | 5 photos

I would love to be awarded the World Nomads photography scholarship. I should be chosen because of my ideas.

I am particularly fascinated by how photography is changing and how we as artists have to adapt to the new
challenges of the digital world. My photo essay touches on this. Questions about where long term photography
projects lie in a short term world and how best to tell those stories, are all discussions I would like to have with Jason. However beyond my excitement and my concerns, I know that there will always be the same universal need to tell stories with empathy and meaning, that touch on new ideas.

This year in an attempt to get more exposure to the photographic world, I gave my 33 year old self the task of getting as much work experience as I could in the field. I worked with a fabulous photographer for a few weeks on my local paper, snapping a whole swag of community events and personalities, I worked with a commercial
photographer holding reflectors till my arms hurt and I worked in an agency setting.

This opportunity would put me in the larger world, where my interesting approach could best find expression.

Oman looks particularly inspiring around March!
