(2) In the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, a nearby glass exhibition case creates a horizontal distortion of Nick Savvas’ vertical artwork “Showtime 1999”, when a MCA guest walks by. In a gentle wink to the viewer, I was playing with the idea of making art with art. There is Savvas’ work and then there is my addition to it, which can add to or alter the original meaning. A very contemporary idea. Ideas about how we make and record art, who is the author of the works we create and how globalisation and technology change the way we communicate with each other, are all playing out in everyday life. (1) The Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, looks out over the Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House and has recently been renovated. It houses some of the best collection of contemporary artists in the world today. I wanted to photograph how
people interact with public art in a post modern world. There is now an almost expected interactive experience at every corner, due to how we now use technology to document our lives. With the advent of social media and the almost shameless self promotion of the individual, new ideas about the role of the artist as the sole contributor to work are being left behind. It is in this vain and in keeping with the idea of interactivity, I chose to use mobile photography as the photographic medium to document this ‘place I have visited’

In this example a young woman with appropriately colour co-ordinated earphones, takes a profile shot of herself in front of Robert Owen’s ‘Sunrise’ exhibit. This exhibit concentrates on light and colour and it’s structure allows for the re-organisation of the pieces for different spaces. The girl looks like she was created especially to be part of this exhibition. An accidental collaboration. She takes a picture of herself to preserve the moment, while I observe her, observing herself.

(3) This image of a young girl running past the work “Stasis’ by Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro outside the front of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, looks at the idea of active participation in public art. We can without knowing, be creating art, while observing it. With the plane heading off to the left and the girl running off to the viewers right, I was lucky that her bright pink dress helped to tie the two elements together.
