Saturday night was spent relaxing at home - Chris and Julie went out to get us some takeaway street food while I played Monopoly with Mo, Hani and Orion. Orion WON!
On Sunday morning, Julie & I went to a Thai Yoga class in Perfect Place. It was very hard, as obviously it was all in Thai, and quite frankly, I don’t bend properly. I did do my Sun Salutations though Mel!
We then went to the pool, where Hani & Orion impressed me with their water acrobatic skills, then Mo & I practised being pieces of bread and toasted ourselves quite nicely in the sun.
After such a strenuous morning, it was only right that we had ice-creams.
The Thais love shopping. In fact, that’s why Sundays were invented. So off we went to Fashion Island Mall which is close to Perfect Place. First stop: Lunch of course. We went Vietnamese, and Mo chose my lunch for me, which was grilled pork and rice - delicious.
After lunch we had a wander round the Mall - it’s all very sensibly laid out - all the beauty shops together, all the electronic shops together etc. Order and Method - I bet they used spreadsheets.
In Thailand, local kids generally do organised, structured fun at the weekends - so the Mall had a ballet school, Art classes, cookery school and even Kumon which is MATHS class. Maths. On a Saturday. Honestly.
Julie and I decided to get some bling nails done - I’ve gone for Purple with flowers and glitter, which is very tasteful. And practical. Anyway, it was only £3 which is bargain, and they did the nail art using a laser printer. It was very cool.
After the Mall, it was back home for cartoons, cake and Pineapple wine (surprisingly delicious, and much nicer than Tesco Plaisir - which, I can assure you, doesn’t live up to its name).
We then went out to a beautiful restaurant - it was a real local place, and we sat in the beautiful garden and had dinner. I left my choice of dishes to Chris, who asked for them to be ‘a little bit spicy’
First to arrive was the Papaya Salad. Poor Orion took a green bean and turned bright red from the spiciness. The poor thing had tears streaming down his face and drank about 4 pints of water. I decided not to try it.
Sensible or wuss? You decide!
The food was delicious though, and I’m sure after 6 months I’ll be able to deal with the Chillis a little better.
After getting home, Julie & I tested that the Pineapple wine was still drinkable, and then the 3 of us had a karaoke night, the idea of which is probably making those who know what my singing’s like look horrified right now.
I have to confess that Julie’s Meatloaf was an object of awe and Chris’s Leonard Cohen was worthy of a ‘Stars in Your Eyes’ appearance.
I will draw a veil over my own efforts…..let’s just say that the RSPCA were called out by the neighbours who thought we were torturing Fireworks the cat……
