My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I am a wanderer, explorer, adventurer, a soul hungry to learn more about the world around me through any and every means possible. Armed with a camera ever since my Dad brought home our first ever digital camera those many years ago, I have seen and experienced the power of photography. Julie Mayfeng, a photojournalist whose work both amazes and empowers me, says “It doesn’t necessarily take a good pencil to write a good poem, and it is the same for photography”. I completely agree with this. I truly believe that the beauty of a photo lies in the photographer’s ability to be in the right place at the right time - That, and their desire to capture the realness, rawness and unique beauty of what lies in front of them. Cameras have the potential to aid us in creating visual masterpieces out of the very sights in front of us - But it's up to us to seek out those sights in the first place. I try to do this by finding the beauty in all things, great and small. Photography encourages me to seek out the good in the world and to share it with others. I would love to develop my skills in photography and one day use them to capture and convey stories of people from all over the world.
