Since aid wasn’t as necessary at the orphanage, today I went to the Special Needs School nearby. It was absolutely beautiful. It was in a nicer area of Rongai, and is the biggest and most beautiful house I have as yet seen in Kenya. A few of the kids there are actually very high functioning. One, Simon, doesn’t have use of his hands, but is able to write with a pencil in his mouth, text with his tongue, and kick a soccer ball, despite being in a wheelchair. Kelsey and I taught a lesson on verbs to those classified as being able to attend school, and then just hung out with the kids. We stayed until lunch, when we helped the staff to feed some of the students incapable of holding a spoon and/or feeding themselves. I have decided to split my time between the Special Needs School and the orphanage school, doing a half day at each, as they are only about a 20 minute walk apart. I will be exhausted by the time I leave Rongai, but hey, it’s what I’m here for!
