About ceilifitz

My name is Ceili.......Don't worry if at first glance, this name doesn't make any sense to you, trust me you are not alone. You may be mouthing the name Sailee, or Sighly, Seely or Keely, but C-E-I-L-I is pronounced ‘Kay-lee. At birth my father insisted on the Gaelic spelling of my name, thus sending me forth into a life of odd pronunciations, mis-pronunciations, and total avoidance of pronunciations of my name. But alas, here I am, this is me, Ceili with a "hard C".

I'm a deeply loyal, free spirited, rule breaking, ridiculously romantic, adventurer and creative madwoman. I believed as a child that I could commune with the animal world and if I could have one super power it would be to fly. My greatest fear is becoming a crazy cat lady. Music and poetry delight me, the natural world and wildlife excite me, and my love of good food and fine wines sometimes scares me.

I was born and raised on a tiny island nestled in the Caribbean Sea between Cuba and Jamaica. Grand Cayman - grand only in size compared to its two much smaller sister islands - is known across the globe for its tax-free status, banks, and thanks to holly-wood its frequent association with money laundering. I on the other hand, know this hundred square mile group of flat limestone rocks, for their salted sea breezes, the intoxicating orange of poinsettia in bloom, the smell of fried fish and fritters and the symphony of color and life at 70ft beneath the surface of the sea.

However, most of all I know this tiny island as home - one of my homes. At the age of 10, following a traumatic farewell, a long trans-Atlantic flight and a day and a half of jet lag, I awoke in Co. Cork Ireland, which was then to become home - one of my homes.

With triple citizenship and an identity crisis, at 32, I have lived in four countries and have traveled to some of the most beautiful parts of the world. Raised by a nature loving, botanist/ entomologist, bird-watching enthusiast, my earliest memories are of rainforests and temples, eagles and quetzals, poisonous amphibians and searing volcanoes. Solo travel is my idea of fun and watching the sun setting across the Okavango delta is my heaven. I have been blessed to have seen and done the things that I have, but there is so much I have yet to see and do. I am driven by a deep desire to explore as much of this world as I can, to see for the first time animals, flowers, birds and insects that I have never seen before, and to share as much of it as I can, with as many as I can, through photography and through my writing.
