Ladakh, the "Land of high passes" hosts the highest motorable roads on earth.
The road accross the Chang La pass, at 5360 meters is the third highest in the world.
"Conquering" this pass with motorbikes or cars is a real adventure: you have to drive for hours along narrow and dangerous roads, and once on the top, the lack of oxygen makes every movement a real effort. It is not a case that such symbolic and important locations are usually filled with prayer flags, commemorating the arrival to the pass.
To travel and to see the valleys beyond the passes, one needs roads: the HIMANK division of the Border Roads Organization provides the workforce for this challenging task.
