Sandar smiles in front of the Shwezigon Pagoda in Bagan. I encounter a lot of smiles during my trip to Burma. Women use a ground bark from the Thanaka tree to do a cosmetic paste that helps them protect their faces from the sun and do attractive designs on their faces. People are absolutely charming and that same feeling spreads around the whole city.

Landscape of Bagan, Burma. The old capital of the country holds more than two thousand pagodas (temples) in a 42 square mile area. A place froze in time displays the will of rich and powerful kings of the past that wanted to show their faith to their gods. The country has been under military control since 1962 and although it has been under repression till this very day, people still believe in peace. This brief series shows the smiling face of innocence that Bagan cant hide.

There is social life around the temples. These two young men take a walk inside the Ananda Temple in Bagan wearing squared shirts and a sheet of cloth called Longyi covering their legs. Most men in Burma wear longyis and although the color and design offer is big, sober colors are favorites.
Friendship is highly valued; it is more common for friends to hold hands in public than couples.
