Krasnoyarsk

RUSSIAN FEDERATION | Wednesday, 5 November 2008 | Views [410]

We had to find somewhere to stay when we arrived in Krasnoyarsk. After walking the streets in the snow for half an hour or so, we found and checked into a gastinitsa (hotel) from the Soviet era that had a view onto the river, but a bath less than a metre long, a very low toilet and lino that was falling apart. We walked around Krasnoyarsk and visited the great regional museum in an Egyptian inspired building. We also went inside our first Russian Orthodox church (being careful to keep my hat on, but remove Mike's) and were very impressed by the colourful frescoes and icons.
