    At the Pashupati Hindu Temple in Kathmandu, this young street boy, armed with a rope and magnet, fishes for coins (used as funeral offerings) in the holy waters of the Baghmati River, amongst the cremated remains of corpses. Views[955] At over 4000 m and suffering from the throes of altitude sickness, I awoke on the third day of my Everest trek to this beautiful sight: crystallised ice laced onto the glass of the window next to my bed in sprawling, intricate patterns. In the background, the blurred outlines of distant Himalayan peaks can be seen. Views[585] On the second day of my Everest trek, I came across this old abandoned water mill, laden with snow. She attended the same private school in Kathmandu that the orphans I worked with went to, many of them on generous scholarships. Like many children in Kathmandu, the kohl around this girl's eyes is not only applied for aesthetic reasons but to protect her against the evil eye. Views[2273]
