Day 1 - Caught the 2.30pm ferry from Split to Hvar, landing in a little town called Stari Grad. I rang my friend (Hero) I'd met on the train a few days ago & made my way to where he was another little town called Jelsa. Greeted warmly by his fience (Tara) & her family, we proceded to a friend of theirs place for the biggest pasta dinners I think I've ever eaten, it was so good ! Lots of wine & laughter mostly at my attempts to speak & sing in Croatian, but in in good fun. Had one of the best sleeps of my trip in my own room, they wouldn't hear of their honest guest sleeping on the lounge.
Day 2 - After a slow/relaxed start to the day, Hero, Tara & I managed to hire a car to explore the Island in full. Hvar is alot bigger than I had imagined & incredibly beautiful. Weather was excellent, (around 15) perfect for walking around the many coves & towns we visited. The day ended in Hvar town for dinner then back to the house for a few wines with lots of singing & guitar jamming.
Day 3 - We arose early & I said my farewells to the family who had treated me as one of their own & since we had the car till 12.00 Hero & I headed back to Hvar town so I could take some photos & see a bit more of the country side. Caught the 11.30am ferry back to Split then grabbed the bus to Dubrovnik. Was a very long day, 2 hours on the ferry then 5 on the bus, arrived in the place I've been longing to see around 8.00pm, very tired & hungry.
I rang the contact I'd arranged accomodation with to find he was out town (in Zagreb) but he would contact someone to come & get me from the bus station. An hour passed, made another call.... sorry I can't find anyone to collect you.... By this time I was starting to get pissed off so grabbed a cab to the youth hostel to find it closed.... 10.00pm getting really tired & really hungry now.... eventually I found an open internet cafe & started looking for someone to sleep, thinking I could always head to a hotel. Heard back from the appartment guy, finally, around 11.00pm, he sms'ed me the address & I cab'ed it straight there. dropped of my pack & went in search of food, found a great little restraunt in the old town & overly satified my hunger. Slept like a log, except for the phone call from Fiona (my good friend & house/puppy sitter) at 2.30am, sorry that I sounded so grumpy Fi.
