    Views[142] Watching Monks - Monks as young as 5 enjoy the festival as it offers variation to their daily life of study, meditation and prayer Views[324] A Quiet Moment - The facial expression of this monk dressed up in a festival costume is potrays a moment of inner silence in contrast with the whirlwind of sound and movement around him. Views[509] Prayer - A child claspes her hands together in Buddhist prayer. Bhutan is the only country in the world with a Buddhist government and prayer is a part of everyday life. Views[553] Local Dance - The locals, as seen in the background, attend the festival in their finest clothes - the brightly coloured silk Kira for the women and the Gho for the men. The dancing at the festivals is enegetic and hypnotic. Views[1500]
     
    Head Monk - Bhutan is known for it's amazingly vibrant festivals. I was lucky enough to travel to Bhutan in October 2011 and was deeply touched by this beautiful serene Buddhist kingdom. These images are all taken from a local festival at the Paro Dzong. I have chosen these particular 5 images to depict the regious and cultural elements the festival brings together. In this picture, one of the head monks solemly clashes his instrument as he leads out the procession. Views[853]
