The year of my life- Snapshots from a journey of emancipation

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Merry Men: Returning to the town of my ancestors, St. Agnes, on a gorgeous Cornish afternoon, I came across these jolly Morris men dancing in the middle of the street. I started snapping away with my camera- and then asked the leader if i could have a photo of him. He gave me one look and pulled out a large whistle. Immediately after blowing it, he called his troops to attention.

"Boys, photo op!", and so they staggered in. Beer in hand, smiles on their faces, and donning floral hats like absolute legends. We spent the afternoon there in St. Agnes cove where I was taught to Morris dance. It was an afternoon of friendship and merriment all before the backdrop of the stunning Cornish coastline. It is one of my fondest memories of the trip- and I feel that this photo encapsulates immense joy, warmth, and the true character of this group of travelling, dancing and drunken Morris men.
