The intertidal zones of coastal California are teeming with colorful species of plants and animals. While the unhappy anemone awaiting the return of the tide initially attracts all the attention, one sees more diversity as they look more intently. This photo alone captures the close relationship of anemone, limpets, snails, chitons, coralline algae and others exposed during a low tide.
