My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
USA | Friday, May 24, 2013 | 5 photos
I have been making images with my camera for over ten years. I've taken a ton of portraits, shot sporting events, and even a few weddings. Time and time again, I'm drawn back to using my camera to photograph and document the places I've been and experiences I've had there. That's where my interest and energy seem to emanate from. I like to capture the essence of a new place or event, to distill it down to a set of images that will give a viewer the same feeling that I had when I was there in person. I carry a heavy camera on backpacking trips, and stop in the middle of trail runs to shoot photos with my iPhone. I step into busy streets to shoot architecture and I shoot while driving down the interstate in my car. I get up at 2:00am to shoot meteor showers, and I go out in freezing rain to shoot water puddles.
I want a chance to work with, and learn from someone like Jason Edwards. I'm not looking for someone to teach me about f-stops and shutter speeds, I'm looking for an opportunity to see how a professional works and how he thinks about work. I want to learn how someone takes the impulse to visually document places and turns that into a viable career.
