My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

USA | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 5 photos

Dear judges,

Hello, my name is Bianca Bourgeois, I am twenty-one years old, and I am currently studying photography with a concentration in photojournalism at the Art Institute of Colorado.

The photographs that I submitted have been taken in various places: Denver, Colorado; El Paso, Texas; and Rome, Italy. The subjects convey emotions of loss, sadness, inspiration, nostalgia, and nonetheless, exhibit a true story. As a photographer, my main goal is to capture true stories. In addition, I also like to bring awareness to problems in the community, such as poverty and unfair treatment to veterans.

I believe I should be granted this wonderful opportunity, because traveling is about the essence of learning and appreciating different cultures, and nonetheless, capturing unique characteristics of a culture. In addition, I have tremendous respect for other cultures and I always remain open-minded. Furthermore, I am able to trekk for long periods of time, and if I were to receive $2,000 worth of camera equipment, it would help considerably regarding camera expenses for school and help me begin my career with proper equipment. Moreover, I have an exceptional amount of patience, and there is nothing more than I would like than to give back to my community.

Having the opportunity to travel to Bhutan with Mr. Edwards and capture endangered wildlife, historical architecture, and traditional Bhutanese culture would be a true learning experience and utmost honor. This trip will help me grow as a photographer and as a person, and by learning photography techniques from the best, I will carry them for the rest of my life and make sure that photography continues to be used as a truthful media.

Thank you,

Bianca Bourgeois
