So here we are. A van that looks like a bunch of flowers, an iPod loaded with music which is falling in the categorie "Ohhh-yeah!!!!!",and me. Rob.

What’s the plan? Having a great time. Nothing less. Meeting people, listening to their stories and trying to find inner peace…Just kiddin. And last but definitely not least...discover Australia. The Australia my friends back in Berlin told me about. Maybe it’s not really clever choosing the "road most traveled" for this mission, but I’m quite optimistic that it’s nevertheless possible if i keep my eyes open. I’m sure it is.

Here are the things I know already: 12th of November is the kick off and my flight back to Sin City (Sydney, in that case) goes on the 3rd of December from Cairns. That’s it pretty much. Oh! And I know that I never drove a car having the steering wheel and gear shift!! on the other, non-European side. Fingers crossed that I get used to it very soon...so weird. I’m a bit worried to be honest but, once again...optimistic :)

So here we are....

Yeah, keep your eyes open, always!! Pay attention, you know, there are many dangerous animals, especially those with two legs and brown eyes, you know the difference.
I'm sure, all will be good, old boy from Sydney!!!

Good luck on your trip up north Rob - looking forward to following the adventure! If you find yourself inland anywhere near Stanthorpe QLD, look up former Ambassador Matt for a free meal/shower!

Enjoy!

hey rob,
Thought I'd throw you a few suggestions, being a sydney girl who decided on a whim last year to grab a pommy and a yank and jump in a little car to drive up north and back with no set agenda for one hectic week (yes, hectic and believe me we stretched that week to the max). Our journey took us to some great places so thought I'd throw you those ideas:
-byron. i know everyone goes but mate byron is worth the time. figure you have a bed in your van but otherwise there are some great laid back hostels. hit the beach, have a surf, a beer and listen to the strummings of guitar that gather in the early hours of the night - we met some great musos
-Nimbin- have to see it once - consider it one of the odd places on earth, equipped with men with no teeth, smoke, lots of peace and love and shanty towns - we drove and the countryside whether coming from north or south is superb
-noosa - if youve been to syd it's like mosman or double bay but a whole town - go for a walk around the point - huge dragon lizard things and an amazing coast line - shops are a bit la di da for a traveller
-rockhampton - get out - our motel was like one of the moderate cells in la paz prison, bolivia
-great keppel island (you get there on a ferry from rockhampton) - pitch a tent or grab a dorm in the hostel - the people that work there are great. had an amazing night of frivilous behaviour with them around a campfire out on a deserted beach under a sky full of shooting stars. the beaches are amazing up that end -sand just white as white can be and clear water perfect for snorkeling.
thats as far as we got - which is i think about 2/3 of the way to cairns.
good luck mate!
Lexi
