I think the joke is teacher love June, July, August the best, I really forget how the joke goes, but someone always tells it when I mention I teach. There is truth to this and I am proof, because I am leaving again for Asia and taking the whole break.
“Why leave?” is a constant question for people. What is my answer? The first part is because I can, and I add contrary to what you think teachers DO NOT hang with one another all summer. My “other” friends work the normal 9-to-5 gig, waiting for them to get home and hoping they want to go out and play is not my idea of fun. (At K.C.’s Tuesday I asked a woman why she wasn’t going with hers to another bar after the Laker’s, she said, "I not a teacher.")
I need movement and Asia provides it on a great budget. I can easily reach Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, etc, by land or air for cheap. The food is great. (Cheap) Guesthouses are cheap. All these places have cultures for me to discover. (I do teach about these places in Social Studies) I have friends in these places. I really don’t mind being the six foot blond guy in a land of five foot people and black hair. The fish out of water suits me just fine. Did I mention the food?
I will add that my bank account does reflect a big deficit at the end of the summer because of this traveling. I think of it as motivation to go back to work and earn that money for the next trip
