As our time in South America comes to a close we had one last little country to tick off our list. Uruguay. Thats right the country we beat to make it to the world cup. Hahaha. Not that i would rub it in or anything,, OK, maybe wearing my socceroos shirt wherever i went was rubbing it in just a little.
Getting there required us to get up at 7AM!!! and catch a little ferry across the bay from Buenos Aires to Colonia Sacrimento on the Uruguyan side. Of course little ferry was an absolute huge thing which was lucky cause we had some pretty wild weather on the crossing which followed us all around the country as well. (maybe it had something to do with the shirt?).
From Colonia is was another short bus ride to the capital Montevideo. Montevideo is like a little version of Buenos Aires. Although don´t tell the people there that, a little bit of an ego thing seems to go on. So we had a bit of a walk around enjoying the relaxed pace and enjoying the litre stiens of beer as well!!
Next day had us heading to the little coastal village of Punta Del Diablo. All the way on the other side of the country to what Colonia is, but really only about a 7 hour bus ride in total (tis a small country, but don´t tell them that, ego thing) Punta Del Diablo is comprised of tiny shacks on the beach and not much else. Makes for a wonderful escape though. The wild ocean bashes against the rocks and beaches and watching the insane surfers trying to survive is lots of fun.
We procured ourselves one of the chalets and settled down to listening to the wind howl around us and enjoyed a beverage or two. Next day it was still quite windy but the clouds had mostly cleared so we did have the sun. Only thing to do then was to find a sheltered spot on the beach, watch the waves, and enjoy lunch and drinks. Was a very hard day. With that done we made our way home.
Our last country ticked off, we´re back in our apartment and getting ready to catch our plane on Wednesday to say fairwell to South America (sniff) and hello to Africa!!
