Hey - we`ve come down out of the mountains and into the jungle (more of that later) and are now in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

But all scenic stuff aside I need some political opinions.  You see Santa Cruz are about to have a referendum (May 4th) to decide whether or not they want to remain a part of Bolivia!

I`m certainly a political ignoramous... but does that strike anyone else as a kind of freaky thing to do?  I mean Santa Cruz has long been spurned by the rest of Bolivia AND it is essentially THE Bolivian economic powerhouse (Ben`s cool phrase)... but still!!

Anyone else out there more in the know?

Oh and standy by... if we`re still here on the 4th I`ll give the "from the ground referendum update".

;-)

Hi Gang
Old wise saying. "Stay out of politics". This one is a clash between old ex Euopean settlers and the indigenous population. Bolivia's first indigenous President Evo Morales' has leftist views and wants to break up the "old school rich" with land reforms etc etc. Has place energy industry under state control. Big gas reserves. Could turn nasty. Luv Sue and Dad
