The Doctor writes: We ended up staying with a friend of mine from ING that I used to work with who‘s been in Copenhagen for 2 years. This was a great way to save money especially since I heard that Denmark was the most expensive country in the world…I soon came to agree with this when I saw a sandwich for $35.
Anyways the place is a pretty nice place with a lot of obvious differences from OZ. The first thing you notice is that there are bikes everywhere…we are talking bikes coming out your wazoo. You feel a little left out without one.
The place is really quite green and has lots of parks and trees around everywhere, except the rain follows us everywhere and again rained pretty much the whole time we were there so we couldn’t enjoy the parks much. But we powered on and went for a guided tour with our fantastic host who at the end felt more like our servant cause she ended up doing the cooking and cleaning for us.
We went on a canal boat ride and learnt a few historical facts about how Copenhagen was an important port city back in the day for Vikings. Speaking of Vikings we went to this town specifically for the Viking boat museum and it wasn’t too bad but could have more info on Vikings in general.
I also went to a house party with Katrina the host and met up with another friend who now lives in Denmark too. It was interesting to see the different customs of the Scandinavians. We ended up hitting the town for a bit and I realised as I was in the bar that the Danes are ridiculously tall as I felt like a midget there.
Another place we went that was recommended by everyone was Christiania, which was a sort of independent state within Copenhagen that didn’t abide by the rest of the laws in Denmark. We went in and it was sort of like a rundown area of any big city but with a few tourists. This place is renown for selling, but I didn’t see any.
