Though I consider myself disperse, one of the things that have helped me define who I am and who I want to become is photography. It’s the way that I can capture my life, the things that surround me, the things that hurt and rejoice me giving me the opportunity to look at all these things from a different angle, as a creator yet also as a spectator, plus I have lots of fun doing it and I think that this is a key element in choosing what I want to do. Traveling is another thing that has helped me with the introspection of myself. I love to capture the world through the lens, it’s like recreating and making a different world the way I want to see it, and letting people know that place through my experience yet respecting and giving the opportunity to each individual that, through my pictures, they can create their own perspectives and opinion.
I photographed the Astronomical Telescope of San Pedro Martir in Baja California, Mexico. It is a very important project, not only from the scientific contribution it has had in the astronomical development of Mexico, but also from a very personal place. My step father, Arcadio Poveda, one of the most important astronomers in the world was the founder of that observatory and has been one of the most important characters in my life. 31 years after the foundation, he goes back to relive part of his history, and I go along with him as a spectator and as a capturer of both our histories, giving myself to what truly fascinates me, travel and photography. Winning this scholarship is my opportunity to grow as a photographer which is what I love and what I want to dedicate my life to.
