Travelling this vast country from Vancouver over the rocky mountains across the endless towns of the prairies Calgary, Regina and Winnipeg. I head down to bustling Chicago, up to Niagra falls then on to historical Ottawa, mouth watering and vibrant party city of Montreal and the of europe in north america beautiful Quebec city. I settle in Toronto to earn some cash and live.
After making this city my new home for the past 6 months and establishing a comfortable life with a close network of good friends. I begin to ponder the idea of hitting the road again...
Stepping out the front door of my warm and comfortable apartment onto the streets of downtown Toronto. A shock of the cold temperature instantly chills the few parts of my exposed skin.
I begin walking to warm up. Under my feet the sidewalk grumbles and moans at the constant pounding it is receiving from the hundreds of people walking past. The road is shrieking as traffic and street cars scratch along its surface.
I am flowing with the current of people down the, frozen hard white streets. With an icy, whining, whistling wind against me. My feet are sticking to the pavement, the snow and ice halting my progression forward.
The aromas surrounding, once fresh and new. Are now familiar and stagnant. At the city centre it is a sensual overload, bordering on abuse. Flashing neon signs, bright coloured banners, giant screens beaming messages down and the sound of music pulsing throughout. I gaze up to the sky and watch the birds floating through the air, deciding which direction to take, south? Or is it to late?
The sun breaks through the clouds, its warm rays release me from winters icy grip. The sounds of music and laughter burst into my ears from surrounding bars and restaurants.
I realise that all of the action, warmth, colour and jovial sounds are associated with release and movement. Not with staying still and in the comfort zone, time to book the ticket and hit the road!
