My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

France | Wednesday, July 3, 2013 | 5 photos

To be honest, I’m not much of a photographer; in fact I really only started taking pictures shortly before I left for Europe on May 6th. The camera I am using is my brother’s old Nikon D40 and I love figuring out new ideas for pictures with it. Before I left for Europe I had no sense of how pivotal a role the camera plays in sharing stories or triggering specific emotions. I am always fascinated with the amazing photo essays in National Geographic and want to learn as much as I can about finding the right image, and how to capture it. My current journey in Europe came to fruition because of my yearning to experiment with photography. My goal here has been to learn about the people and communities within Europe. To my amazement, I have discovered incredibly diverse groups of people and lifestyles. My travels have taken me sailing in the French Riviera, hiking in the Cevennes Mountains, wandering Rome and the Amalfi coast, milking goats at a farm in rural France, making cheese and bread, and now to an ecotourism farm run by a retired Buddhist monk and his wife. I have learned many things and created relationships with incredible people, I hope to do the same in Greenland.
