Arrived in Karachi

PAKISTAN | Thursday, 31 July 2008 | Views [1606] | Comments [1]

I arrived in Karachi on Tueday morning. After a quite enjoyable flight over next to a Pakistani guy who thought I was 23, just because I said I just finished school :) nice! I look so young when I am traveling and tired, aparently...

My aunt picked me up from the airport and after some chatting we decided to go back to bed, since it was still only 5pm.

It is thursday now and I have been to Mohata Palace, where they had an exibition on how tiles were manufactured and beautifully ornamented in this region since BC. That was nice but I really enjoyed the palace. It looked like out of the fairy tale books.

Yesterday we went to a wedding. Actually, it was the celebration BEFORE the wedding. It was the boys family who has invited many people to their house. We sat and sang traditional songs and had our hands painted (ok., only the women did that) but it is fun! I will upload a picture of my hand, nicely painted.

Just now I got back from a shopping trip with my aunt, where she showed me the parts of town where people sell fruits and vegetables and meat. You find one cart/ house next to the other, all selling their produce. next to that is a sty with chicken in it, all crowded, but still enough room to eat and get nice and fat. an occational cat will roam around, while the butcher is sitting and cutting the meat very skillfully with an axe. Meat can be bought fresh for sure!

I went running in the heavy thunderstorm and heavy rain (I can only reccommend!!). Lots of greetings from here!

A., I envy you.
Anyway, have fun and don't forget to share your impressions with us.
This is my last activity at the IRS before leaving on my vacation. It's only Southeast Europe, and only two weeks, not comparable to your time in Pakistan and India, but better than nothing.

Take care.

Bye.
