The journey began today with a flight to JFK in New York. The weather was perfect but it was obvious from the very long line of snow plows on the tarmac that they have been battling the snow, as we all saw on TV. Arriving at the hotel, we met up with 4 other people in our group. Another 3 should meet us at the airport tomorrow morning. We have to leave the hotel around 6:30 a.m. so I am considering staying up as long as possible to ensure at least a little sleep on the 15 hour flight.
I managed to pack only a backpack and an overnight bag. Delta is charging $20 per bag now so I am able to get by easily and won't have to pay extra. Interesting way to make people pack lighter I guess.
Hopefully, I'll be able to add a few lines after arrival in Capetown on Wednesday.
