This day was only 9 miles, but started with quite a climb out of Stonethwaite, over the pass to Grasmere. We saw some beautiful vistas, but saw our first major boggy areas. It reminded us of Hound of the Baskervilles, where the bad guy knew just where to run through Dartmoor, and those following him were usually lost in the bog. We saw one fellow sink up to his knees in mud (much to his disgust), but we managed to stay mostly dry. Once again, our descent into Grasmere was nice and gentle, not as steep as the climb in the morning. We had plenty of time for a little shopping at the pharmacy and a look around town. Hotel was a bit tired, but the bed was great.
