My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Storytelling is my passion, combined with a firm belief in the power of stories to inspire positive change. Working as a freelance reporter in China (and previously based in Brazil, France and Australia), I thrive on the challenge of accessing difficult-to-reach people, places and facts in order to bring back meaningful stories for a wider audience, opening up scope for us to learn and grow together.
Still photography is a powerful medium which I have always loved; now I'd love to pursue it professionally. Given an old film camera at age 11, I snapped a full roll of sunsets and fell in love with the power of creatively capturing images. A well-composed series of photos can inspire, inform, provoke, surprise, move us to action. Being self-taught so far, I would love the chance to work alongside Jason, push my photography skills, and really reach for my full potential. Working for National Geographic would be my dream job!
Being multilingual enables me to bridge cultural differences. Most recently I was in Mozambique and Angola on a university grant, traveling on my own, speaking directly with locals, searching for untold stories of the sweeping nature that NatGeo does so well.
