After an uneventful ferry crossing from Dover to Dunkirk, we decided to drive through Belgium rather than France. In less than a couple of hours we arrived in Bruges, inspired by watching the film "In Bruges" recently (the film wasn`t much good but the town looked interesting).
Bruges turned out to be lovely, very quaint and clean. After finally finding a room for the night in a reasonable guesthouse, we took a horse-drawn carriage to see some of the town. It feels like time has stopped in Bruges; the buildings and streets are old and full of history, but the town is well preserved and looked after. Lots of quaint little shops selling traditional lace, tapestries and paintings, cute little bridges over clean canals, people cycling everywhere - its definitely worth a visit.
We left the next morning after a great Belgium breakfast (including plenty of hot chocolate of course) and decided to have a brief stop in Luxembourg on our way to Switzerland.
