Going for Greenland

Man's touch: The Namib Desert

South Africa | Wednesday, June 19, 2013 | 5 photos

I'll be 41 years old this year. There's a few more grey hairs in my beard, the number of wrinkles around my eyes has increased significantly and my eyesight is not what it used to be. But the one thing that hasn't changed since I picked up a Yashica SLR over 20 years ago is my love for photography.
From a young age I knew I wanted to be a photographer, but it's not something that I ever viewed as a hobby or an occupation - it's more than that. Photography is an extension of the person I am. I'm happiest with camera in hand, either picking my way through a meadow, walking a wide expanse of beach, photographing an exotic location or simply taking pictures of my daughter.
Add travel and camping into the equation and I'm in my element.
Through photography I've discovered you're never too old to stop learning and I'm as enquisative about the art as ever.
With that in mind I don't believe I deserve the opportunity to go to Greenland more than anyone else, but I do believe I want it more than anyone else.
