The cost of cleaning up the desert is too high so the buildings have been left to slowly rot away

To get equipment and supplies into the Namib desert, diamond miners used wagons. Villages, now abandoned, sprung up all over the desert and today still look much the same as they did over 60 years ago.

Getting to many of the abadoned diamond mining villages means tackling some of the highest dunes in the world. It's not for the fainthearted.
