I thought it best to provide a brief outline of what I´ll be doing over the next 8 months to warrant a blog and also provide some pointers as to what you can expect from it.
I´ve basically got 8 months off work to learn Spanish, do a bit of travelling and some voluntary work. I´m going to spend the first 3 wks of my trip travelling to a few bits of Mexico that I haven´t been to before. Between Nov and Mar I´ll be in Guatemala where I´ll be learning Spanish, doing some serious trekking and a bit of voluntary work (once I get around to it).
After that, the plans are a bit fluid.
Scenario 1 is to fly to the top Columbia, use up my Starwood guest points in the Bogota Sheraton where I hopefully bump into Shakira, I wow her with my non-existent salsa moves and we end up getting married and I never return home.
In the unlikely event that doesn´t transpire, scenario 2 is that I make my down through Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina returning home in July
Scenario 3 is that I get kidnapped in Columbia and following months in captivity escape to live in the Columbian amazon before being rescued by Bruce Parry who is filming his new tv series out there.
ok, so that´s my trip. Now for what we can expect from the blog...
- lots of photos (I know you´re all time constrained people...)
- a few entertaining observations from my travels
- another web page to look at apart from bbc and facebook during your lunch break
However, you won´t find...
- informed commentary on the global financial crisis (you can all read the FT just as well as I can...)
- opinions on the Obama presidency (there are enough pseudo-academics doing that...)
Hope this helps. I expect readership to hit a peak of about 10 before people start getting bored by either: 1) lack of photo uploads 2) the content of the blog.
Adios
