The question of who we are is an age old question it defines us for our intrepid spirit, our since of self, our understanding of who we will become and of who we once were. I am a nomad by definition, a traveler, I am never anywhere for to long, I travel to where resources are available, places I can find work, homes of friends who will put me up. Sometimes I sleep in a tent, and sometimes under-bridges. I never know where I will be. I am a college graduate, an environmentalist, and a son. Through all of this I have ascertained a piece of knowledge more valuable than I could have dreamed; the process taken to get where one is going is more important than where one goes. The journey has always been the story told, and the achievement the ending of that story. This time I tell the story of my photo's for the 2012 nomad travel scholarship entry. We begin with the American West. A land of Lakes, Oceans, Deserts, and Mountains. An area that demonstrates the raw power of nature and a diverse group of ecosystems in a relatively close geographical location. The American West is an area that exemplifies awe inspiring scenery to a point where people travel from all around the world to see it. My name is Bradley Cavin I set out on a road trip with a friend hoping to find some work in one of the national parks, instead I found myself lusting for the scenery in this remarkable region of the United States . I began photographing every rock for its individual characteristics. I later realized this was to be my focus for this years entry. The American West a place both vast and specific to a region, a land with so much to offer, and so geologically interesting. An area where color can vary with a moments change and a place powerful enough it tells its own story through its layers.
