Well, I was on a mission today to get hot water. I was totally okay with accepting if we didn't have hot water, not too many people in Guatemala have it, so I was bracing myself to just suck it up and deal with it. But then, lo and behold, other people in our group started talking about how they enjoy their "nice, hot, relaxing" showers every morning. Oh hell no...
So Gringa Anna marched up to the hotel front desk and asked if there was a problem with the hot water. One of the hotel workers came into the room, and just ran the hot water for a long time, and then turned to my roommate and said, "Okay, it's working."
So the whole situation where you wait to call someone, and then when they show up, the situation is totally fine and you feel like a moron? That's an international experience apparently...
