My Scholarship entry - Ile de la Reunion

I have a travel bucket list. My goal is to reach every continent on the planet and put my toes into all the oceans. I went to school for photography, where I learned mostly studio practices. It wasn't until after graduation that I realized that the photography I was practicing wasn't the photography I wanted to keep pursuing. Life doesn't happen in the pristine set up of the white walls in a studio, but OUTSIDE. I lived near Yellowstone National Park, and it was the first place that I began exploring my new concept: Portraits of the Planet. In the last four years, I have been fortunate enough to travel around and see the world a bit. So why should I be chosen? Well, I'm an experienced travel adventure photographer who has never been to South America, and who feeds off the sense of wonder of exploring a new area. I don't scare easily; I once jumped 150 feet down a makeshift zip line to get to the bottom of a canyon. I feed off of the unknown, and have lived in a foreign country with a minimal grasp of the language hoping to learn more. I love life, and I couldn't imagine a better way to express that than to travel to the Amazon and experience it with another photographer.
