Cirque de Mafate, Reunion
I'm Aly Hansen, a travel adventure photographer currently based out of North Carolina, USA. I love travelling, and often fall in love with a place and then wax poetic about it for months after I've left. My most recent adventure concluded about a year and a half ago. I had moved to Reunion, an island in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Madagscar. It was a very rewarding trip and taught me a lot about myself. Since I've been back, I've had to stay within the confines of the Eastern United States. There are a lot of great places to explore on the East Coast and it's been exciting discovering my own country. I developed the concept "Portraits of the Planet" because I feel that "landscapes" isn't really a good word for what landscape photographers do. Sure, we take pictures of the land. But it's more than that. It's a connection that we feel to the earth, and the need and want to show people where we've been and what we've done. The landscape is often a reflection of the photographer themselves, not just the nature they are capturing with their cameras.
