If I could,
Oh, how I would,
Love to fly on the breeze.
But if I could fly,
Just how would I
Choose my set of wings?
The quick darting flight
Of a swallow so bright
It too hurried for my taste.
Likewise the Kestrel,
Or the high-diving Petrel,
Where do they go with such haste?
Parrots are gaudy,
And geese too bawdy,
And owl hold such strange hours.
Could I instead be a seagull?
Or a powerful eagle?
Or a hummingbird among flowers?
Oh, were I to fly,
And explore open sky,
And revel in all that space,
I'd spread wings and soar
Like the mighty condor,
Epitome of freedom and grace.
