Funny how cats always fin their way into cemetaries. In Egyptian mythology, cats are the guardians of the dead.

Mood: Lazy

Environment: An air-conditioned internet cafe in San Telmo, with traffic rushing by in the heat outside.

Most recent meal: Fresh bread with dulce de leche

Greetings everyone! I have uploaded some pictures of BA into a new gallery. There are pics of the famous sites, as well as some from the Recoleta Cemetary.

Yesterday, Kyle and I took the subte to the rich Recoleta neighborhood to visit their impressive cemetary. The tombs went on and on, long aisles of imposing polished granite and marble, and crumbling crypts from the 1800´s. It was beautiful, and reeked of money--I can´t even begin to imagine the money these folkes spent on their burial.

Adterwards, we explored the Museum of Fine Arts. The old classical art was beautiful, and the Argentine paintings from the 1800´s and 1900´s were moving and very well done. But the modern art...I guess I just don´t ¨get it¨. Cest la vie.

We also walked around San Telmo some more, which is a lovely little neihborhood, where the people are more laid back and less fashion-oriented than the Palermo or Recoleta areas. Some travelers from our hostel pitched in with us to buy a tub of dulce de leche ice cream, which was to die for! We watched a movie (Meet the Fockers) at the hostel to kill time until 2 am, because that´s when people start to party in BA. Before 2 am some bars aren´t even open!

The night life was pumping, but we took it easy at a small bar, then in the Plaza Dorego to watch some street performers. There was a lively bar nearby, though, which we might check out tonight, our last night im BA before our next adventure.

Stay tuned: Uruguay and Parque Nacional el Palmar are coming up next. Ciao!

Did you see Evita's tomb in La Recoleta? Creepy, I think. Also, in your pic of the Casa Rosada, the tiny flag under the big flag means that the president (Cristina) was actually in residence. Try the bife de lomo. Also, you HAVE to get ice cream at Freddos or Persicos - it's heavenly!

We didn´t see Evita´s tomb, amazingly, but we heard it was surrounded by crying porteños with flowers. We knew about the flag because Spencer told Kyle--what a cute way to announce her presence! We wondered if she ever uses it deviously to cover her actual whereabouts. Thanks for the recommendations!
