Early start today, had to catch the ferry from Bellagio at 8:14am to Como, caught the train into Milan. Just the girls again today, things went a lot faster. Lost all sense of direction, but after some kind instructions, we got on track again. Had a quick coffee on the way, but lesson learned after Verona, we had it standing up at the bar like a local!!
Caught sight of the Duomo, floored us both. The most amazing building ever constructed by man, so OTT. Was a little intimidated by the armed forces at the door checking bags, but once inside we had to take a moment. So mesmorised by it's enormity, it was hard to take it all in. We were in disbelief at all the people taking photos inside after all the no photography signs on the way in, we were scared at first but snuck in a few. Spent a bit of time inside contemplating life and religion, then decided to conquer the roof top. The views up there were amazing, and it was even more inspiring up close to all the carved marble that is the Duomo. Can't rave about it enough, took about a thousand photos, every time we thought we were done we would catch something else, not one square inch of this place was left undecorated.
After we got down we walked through the Galleria, searched for the mosaic bull to do a little spin for good luck on it, am still raw from the experience of missing it by that much that I don't want to talk about it. Perused through Prada and Louis Vuitton, (glad I got my shoes in Como) and then went out through the Piazza Scala. We were wondering around aimlessly for a while looking for something to eat when we stumbled upon heaven. This is for you Tiffy, look up www.obika.it. It's a mozzerella bar, shit you not, we had the most divine lunch there, we are going to search it out in Rome and Florence, I have to go there again.
Found the Sforzesco castle, bought a ticket and walked through the museum. So many ancient collections but we were most impressed by the room decorated by Leonardo da Vinci, and the Pieta by Michelangelo. Stood for ages checking out the Pieta, was very humbled by it, was awesome, very glad we decided to go in....we nearly didn't.
Decided to seek out the Last Supper, but was the end of the day, made our minds up to board the train that was leaving in 10 minutes instead....still pretty raw about this don't want to talk about that either (when we got home realised how close we were to it) The End.
Very suprised at the fashion in Milan, didn't see many well dressed women at all, we must have not been in the right area, didn't see many fashion houses either, and we pretty much walked through central Milan in it's entirety.
Met the others in Como to go up to Brunate for dinner. Were recommended to go to this little place on a balcony with views over Como, with polenta to die for. Well the view was spectacular, but the polenta......the polenta was way ordinary and very overpriced...ouch!
