After a week in Xi'an, and teaching little kids English, here are the things I've quickly picked up:
- Little Chinese kids are adorable, even if they are beating you up. Period.
- China has food everywhere. How do the little shops make money? They only make one sort of food and are known for it throughout the city - but no matter, everywhere you turn, there is food! Food galore.
- Xi'an is insanely hot.
- Be fashionable or die.
- Be prepared to talk about hamburgers and other unhealthy things if you admit that you're American.
- Be prepared to admit your relationship status and whether or not you're going to marry (if you already aren't).
- Take a roll of toilet paper with you wherever you go.
- Enjoy the cheap taxi and bus rides.
- Always keep track of your things.
- Most of all, enjoy all the questions people ask you because they are so interested in foreigners! Bask in the spotlight.
- Try to speak Chinese as much as possible.
