My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

This is a story of a woman who foolishly agreed to assist the Local Municipal Council as a technical witness, in an extended corruption court case, and how she eventually ended up sleeping with a revolver tucked under her pillow at night and looking over her shoulder a lot by day. Until one morning when she decided enough is enough, packed up fast, sold her car to cover costs and headed out to the Ali Baba-land of her childhood dreams: Morocco. Living with a small Berber community in a remote location for 3 months turned out to be a life changing experience. Hench the title of this photographic reportage:
MAROCCAN BLUES
Going from drab and sad to experiencing visual over kill and suddenly being smothered with love and kindness was incredible! Beautiful people were sharing exotic food and special moments with me and I could once more relax, observe and enjoy. The inhabitants of this harsh, barren landscape strewn with rocks and sand, accepted me with open arms and were keen to share the wonders of their world with me. I felt compelled to capture the colour injection, the exotic cuisine and architecture and amazing people on film. Not always easy, as Moroccans are camera shy by nature and sometimes very suspicious of someone pointing an unfamiliar object at them.
Allow me to share footage of this magnificent country with you and perhaps you will understand why I have decided to change my Architectural career to that of a happy snapper, in the hope to make a valuable contribution as a Photographer one day. Days spend in colourful Medinas and simple homes while sharing tasty meals and drinking cold water from wells, taught me real values. Resuming my old lifestyle is not an option.
