About alexmccull
After graduating college I had no trouble deciding what I wanted to do. I spent the money I had earned as a real estate agent during undergrad to travel through Europe and then China, and after the summer was over I set out for Thailand to teach English for a year. I hit the ground running and never looked back. I made my first Thai friends within hours who I am still in touch with to this day. I struggled mightily to learn bits of the language, but found that once you get the ball rolling language acquisition has a snowball effect.
During my year there I found myself eating an array of insect species, going on a rat hunting excursion (and yes, eating those too), playing in a game of fire hockey in front of a big crowd, and much more. My general rule was to say yes to every opportunity, and it paid off.
I learned to speak a new language, I learned to teach, but most importantly of all I learned to love myself. I have since spent the past 2 years working in the reality television industry in Los Angeles, which was another adventure of equal proportions, but have decided it is time to hit the road again and go back to Thailand.
