A determined heart

In the year 2011, I can remember the events that transpired vividly because it wasa first for me and things almost didn't go as planned. Seeing as my birthday is on the 4th of August, I needed to do something different and fun. I then told my friends that I would love to spend my birthday in Ghana.
Prior to this time, I had never left the shores of Nigeria and I had only my research to go by which wasn't enough but I was determined to see my plans through. A fellow passenger was kind enough to put me through when we arrived cotonou and helped me find a hotel. He bought me my first meal of some funny looking rice which was different from that obtainable in Nigeria and a full fish. I am one who loves to try out new things and so I enjoyed my meal. I was later taken to the club where I danced my heart out to french songs I couldn't understand but it was the beats that moved my feet and body.
The trip to Aflao border from cotonou took about 4hours and I didn't know that the trip into Accra would take longer. In the bus, I got chatting with the guy who sat by me because he was carrying a girly bag which I fell in love with. We bonded so well for strangers and when we arrived Accra at about 8pm, he decided to help me out. He offered his cousin's place where he would be staying and I was glad for the offer but was scared knowing that he was a stranger and anything could happen. I however took a leap of faith. That night I had dinner of Banku (a traditional Ghanaian meal) and draw soup. The night was uneventful and the next day I immediately called a friend to come and take me away and we went to look for a decent accommodation which I found and stayed in at Tema. On the 4th being my birthday, I visited almost every tourist attractions in Accra. I went to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, the textile village, the mall, the market, drank coconut water on the road, ate some form of pear which I was seeing for the first time ever, visited about 2 clubs and concluded that it was the best birthday yet.
The experiences overall was worthwhile and I was sad that I couldn't afford to stay more and explore the other parts of Ghana. The world is truly at the feet of a determined heart. It was a wonderful time out for me being that it was the first time I ever left the shores of Nigeria.
