Snake Oil

CHINA | Thursday, 18 September 2014 | Views [610]

I woke up at the apartment and packed my things. I got my tickets for the train to Shenyang where I think I will have to look for a hostel or hotel. It is a 12 hour train ride starting at 5:30pm. Unfortunately I was too late to buy sleeper cabin tickets but I'm saving like 100 ¥ on hard seats.

Since I'm just waiting for the train I went to walk around the street and found an indoor market. People here don't all go to Walmart or home depot for things. They really shop locally as I've seen lots of shops for curtains, plumbing, door handles, and of course clothes.

Since my flat iron broke and I can't handle my hair this way I bought a travel sized one for 15¥. That's $3. It apparently works but I'll find out tomorrow when I use it. I also bought hand cream since my skin is acting up. While I was looking at a shelf full of things I can't read I saw one hand cream that was different. Snake oil is apparently a real ingredient here! I'm not sure if its true but I could believe it; this is China after all! I bought a different one of course.

Also there are so many stray cats and dogs, I just want to feed them all and take them home!
