My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Colombia | Friday, July 5, 2013 | 5 photos
I have always loved travelling, and I have found photography gives an added dimension to my wanderings: capturing the feel and stories of a new land, helping me make sense of where I am and my relation to it. My dream is to work as a travel photographer. But not just to take pictures of beautiful beaches and holiday resorts, but to show places as they really are, highlight the struggles faced across the globe, break down culture barriers, show the wonders of the earth and help protect them.
I have had no formal teaching, instead have learned through doing as well as speaking to other photographers and reading. I now feel I have reached a critical stage, I'm hoping to go professional next year, where a mentor would be invaluable. And not just for photography help, but to show me all the other sides of working an assignment and being a professional.
This scholarship will give me everything I need at this stage of my career: direction, expert advice, exposure, contacts and will mean working with the publication that I have read since a child on my Grandma's knee. This is not something I will treat lightly, but will strive to get everything I can out of the amazing opportunity.
